Tips for Time Management

When you have a newborn baby, your priorities will definitely change. With that said, when you learn how to define your beliefs, virtues, and values, prioritizing becomes simpler. Here are two tips from the U.S. Department of State to help you better manage your time.

TIP #1 - Learn what matters most

  • When we live our lives in accordance with what matters most to us, we can be most productive, satisfied, and happy (U.S. Department of State. n.d.).
  • Schedule what matters most, first!
  • If you can't define what is really most important to you, everything will seem important.

TIP #2 - Distinguish between the important and the urgent

  • The Important : things that contribute to your long-term mission, goals, and values (U.S. Department of State. n.d.).
  • The Urgent : a task that requires immediate attention; do it now or it is gone (U.S. Department of State. n.d.).
  • Important and urgent are not synonyms. Important is not necessarily urgent and urgent is not necessarily important.
